How do you use the shift lever : just spring back on its own or easily let it go back. Help settle a dispute, I move it back easily/slowly so it does not crash back to the resting detent wife just moves it over to selected gear and lets go and seems to "crash" back over there (noise) Wanting to know because when we were growing up we were told never turn the tv selector ( channel knob) fast it will wear it out. But as time and knowledge comes about we have found out it was better to turn the channel selector fast to keep the contacts clean. just wondering if same is true about electronic shifter contacts which way is best?
It's not going to make much difference for the shifter, so this issue is going to be one of personal preference. Tom
Never once have I moved it back slowly. Was initially shown to move it to the D/R position and release it. IMO moving it back to it's 'home' position is 1)wasted effort and 2) risks inadvertently shifting into neutral or another undesired position should you move it too slowly.

It was true that rapidly spinning that beast could reduce its life. Nothing remotely like that with the Prius gear selector.
I shift it to Drive (or reverse), and let it settle back to its home position by itself, the way it was designed.
