I just saw the above ad during Mad Money on CNBC. What a joke! Just for kicks, I checked the Consumer Reports owner satisfaction ratings at http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/re...orst-models.htm (you'll need a subscription to see this) and all the ratings by vehicle type. No Mercedes was in the most satisfying column and for almost all the categories, all or almost all were BELOW the median for the category. Maybe someone can sue them for false advertising? I checked and there was no fine print explaining how they arrived at their statement.
I think it's just advertising. It's not based on any real statistics that Benz owners love their car more than anyone else.
Well, there are plenty of battered wives around that also claim to love their husbands, so I'm not sure what the commercial is really trying to say... As an owner of both a Mercedes and a Prius, I would have to say that I love my Prius more.
I owned a 2000 Mercedes E320, which was traded in on the Prius. I enjoyed the E class very much, got great service, 28.5mpg on the road and never had a repair beyong normal wear and tear. Of course I didn't put high mileage on her so at the end she only had 44K miles on her. It was a nice luxury car, but the extended warranty was about up and, honestly, I just didn't want to shell out > $50K for her replacement. "Janis" served us well and I am sure that "Pearl" will do am admirable job in her place and stead. I do enjoy the Prius a LOT and she has introduced me to a lot of interesting folks in the process.
Ack... I watch Mad Money every weekday and this annoying ad is on SEVERAL times within an ep of that show. Luckily I have TiVo, but I still sometimes catch/hear a glimpse of it when they go to commercials.
I recently saw a Saturn commercial and thought, wow, that's really good advertising. As opposed to some of the lame advertising of the past. They're pushing the right buttons. It was for the VUE line. The message was basically; You can buy any car you want. Rethink excess. Rethink American. That's their underlying theme right now: Rethink American. Pretty smart ad department. Like the VUE hybrid is a true alternative to the Prius.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Aug 1 2007, 03:20 AM) </div> I've liked their new ads as well, but I don't recall the details of that one. I wouldn't suggest the VUE hybrid as an alternative to a Prius, but as a cheap alternative for a Highlander hybrid, a Escape or Mariner hybrid. Let's be real here, it's for those who utterly have to have a hybrid SUV.
Well targeted, but weak, killing the class MB once had. Mercedes needs to become a German car company again and fire the Chrysler ad agency.
Its called "puffing" and its perfectly legal. They can call it "the bestest car in the world" and they wouldn't have to back up their statement. All they have to back up are statistical facts like size, room, power, economy, etc. Sheesh, lighten up. If you think thats false advertising you obviously don't see much advertising.
Hey, if they want to waste their marketing dollars on images of people hugging their SUV's on the beach...well, that's their *right* isn't it... [smile]
