Any experience with center display panel units konking out? Mine konked out a few weeks ago (occasionally it works, but mostly it only shows some of the usual info - can't get the climate screen or the audio screen at all). I'm getting a $600 quote to replace it and that is not good news.

Yup, you should be able to get it replaced for around $450 rather than the 600. Call Toyota, esp. if you only have around 40k miles or less, to see if they'll help cover the cost. There are known issues with the '04 and early '05 MFDs going out and it seems to be a pure manufacturer faulty product. Many seem to go out right after the warranty expires.

The $450/$600 price is for a refurb, new they're a couple thousand dollars...but the refurbs seem to be doing fine. A few people have managed to get Toyota to pay for replacement, but don't count on it if you are out of warranty (an '04 should be unless you purchased the extended warranty).

Oh, heck, I was just *out* your way, too. I do want to get my hands
on one of these that's going to see if there's a way to fix it
without replacing. Mine so far is still good.

600 is a good price, refurbs are up to about 500 now.

Go to the local dealer and ask the service manager for assistance. There is a TSB which applies to 04 Prius and Land Cruisers for this issue. If the service manager can't help, ask for the factory rep. Go in with respect and politeness and beg and grovel if necessary. Quite often they will step up and at least pay for the part.
