News item this morning on the radio. Exon/Mobil has announced discontinuation of funding for organizations that provided dis-information on Hybrids. So, in a backward way, they have admitted funding the dis-information campaign, such as promulgated by CNW. I believe they were caught admitting the funding in the past as well. Big Oil. "You can trust us, really."

So I go yeah but I'm talking off of $25 worth of gas. And again to my surprise his comeback was yeah well you can't haul anything can you.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(morpheusx @ Aug 13 2007, 09:33 AM) </div> As if they are hauling things every day of their life.... But I get the point - they are living in the State of Denial....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(morpheusx @ Aug 13 2007, 09:33 AM) </div> Ask him what does he haul? More than 90% of SUV/Pickup drivers never haul anything other than a bike rack.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(David Beale @ Aug 13 2007, 11:02 AM) </div> That's a good point. You can only discontinue what you were doing in the first place. "Good News! I've decided to stop beating my wife!"
As far as the original question in this topic, we don't know how long the average Prius will last. They haven't started dieing off in large numbers yet. Other than from accidents, I haven't heard of anyone sending one to the recyclers. Check back in, oh, say ten years. They have so far earned one of the best ratings, even in Toyotaland.

He just CANNOT understand how ANYONE could POSSIBLY prefer driving a Prius to ANY beemer under the sun. (Both son and husband refuse to acknowledge that the expense of replacement parts, or rather, more to the point, the NEED TO REPLACE PARTS, is also a factor...) I mean, you gotta use a freakin' KEY--who wants to be bothered with such OLD technology?!?! B)

It's a good thing he hauls alot. Of course this is the same guy that tells me it is worth paying a premium for 4 wheel drive even though he admits that he will never use it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(apriusfan @ Aug 12 2007, 07:02 PM) </div> Sorry, I'm not really into the "pimp my Prius" gig. Thanks for the invite to the club! Brent
Ok, are you folks ready for the answer to the question of where the father outlaw's source for his comment? You better swallow that last cup-a-joe/liquid, and sit down for this one, because he heard it on ... Rush Limbaugh!! Oh my gawd I am so ashamed I wasted everyones time on the board for this brain-damage! Of course! I should have known already! The wife was the one who asked him about his sources, and apparently he didn't want to tell her (ashamed no doubt). <snicker> Oh well. Brent
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bgoodr @ Aug 13 2007, 08:29 PM) </div> Well, would you like to get a reward for buying the Prius in the first place (kind of like a supplemental tax credit)? Or, free gas for some period of time???? I'm sure you can think of other uses for the proceeds of a wager....
115K on my 2004 prius.. Well. I guess it is time to trade it in for the hummer..lol    No problems also...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(p626808 @ Aug 17 2007, 09:30 AM) </div> For fun, I used Kelly to figure out what a Hummer, H1 with 115k miles would go for: $57,565   Bob Wilson
Continuing OT: not quite so much for a 2004 H2 with 115k miles. Just $21655 (private party sale) there. But now you've gotten me interested in depreciation. I guess the 2004 H1 was about $105000, so we're talking about more than $47k lost there. About 40 cents/mile depreciation - that' s got to be more than refueling costs! A 2004 H2 might have sold new for about $45k; just 20 cents/mile depreciation. Accidentally I may have identified an axis upon which the Hummer has a very low 'coefficient of drag'. Straight down. To be fair, KBB also suggests that 2004 Prius with 115k miles have also lost about half their MSRP value. If anyone sees one of those offered for $11,250, please post details on PriusChat! There may be ready buyers. Oh yes. Hi Art, if you're reading this
