Hi Danny, I dislike the new format with a passion, after 5 minutes. If you want to do something like that put in an EXPAND ALL BUTTON. If you cannot put in an expand all button, got back to the old format.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(donee @ Sep 15 2007, 06:56 AM) </div> I'm not sure what you mean; I've noticed no changes to the website design in the last ~6 months. Are you sure you didn't mistakenly changed one of your own settings?
Hi All, Ok. Specifically, messages are not displayed in full text. There is a new (to me at least) "Posts in Topic" navigation portion. In order to see all the messages, one has to hit the link on each mesage. Rather than have them come out automatically in groups of 10 (or whatever it was). Without an "Expand All" button, it will take an hour to look through one topic, that used to take 10 minutes.
Hi All, Ok, went off into "MY CONTROLS" and set number of posts and number of topics to 20, from the "USE BOARD DEFAULT" setting and it had no effect. BAH!
Try clicking on "Options" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen for a drop-down menu, then under "Display Modes" choose "Standard". See if that solves it.
I think a major change that would have affected viewability to that extent would have been loudly announced and discussed well in advance. Lesson learned: one person says "why did this suddenly change", assume pilot error. . _H*
I've had it change on me spontaneously when I used the Google search. Or so it seemed. Like Hobbit suggests, it could be user error, but after having it happen at least twice, I'm befuddled as to what I might have done to provoke it.
Hi Hobbit, I did not even know about the "OPTIONS" button, so its probably not pilot error. The default OPTIONS setting seems to have been changed for my login. And as they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Sorry, I was out of town this morning. What happened (I have no idea why) is that Donee's view settings got set to "outline" mode. Most of you have never noticed that to the right of the thread title, there is a box named [Options] with a down arrow. If you click that, you are presented with a list of - you guessed it - options. The last three options are for changing the way the threads (all threads) are presented. This allows each user to customize their experience to their tastes. Most of you use the "Standard" setting. This setting shows the entire thread with each post displayed in their entirety. What happened to Donee (again, I have no idea how) is that his setting was changed to "outline." In this mode, the Original Post is shown in its entirety but all subsequent posts are presented as headers only. I'm glad you got it fixed. Sorry it happened. Incidentally, this isn't the first occurrence. Though I can't remember who, someone a little while back indicated that they didn't like "the new format." Turned out it was the same thing. BTW, I'm not sure how Linear+ works.
Okay, the next question, then, is how Google results are managing to do this [if so]. Is it reproduceable? Is Google handing back URLs that somehow include tags that change user options, and once you chase the link and go to Priuschat and it dutifully digs up your existing cookies for Priuschat so you wind up automatically logged in, the change happens? [This would never happen to me because I run a totally separate browser instance with a different cookie repository when reading PC..] I suggest coming up with some method that reproduces the problem and looking VERY carefully at each URL in the chain to see if the offending tag can be spotted. And then either Google should not hand that format back [unlikely you'd get through to anyone there to effect a change] or PC shouldn't accept that tag [or generate it in the first place when the spiders come by] on a random post-retrieval. Options should *only* change when the user invokes the precise script or PHP-fragment that's supposed to be used for that. . So it maybe still has a small component of pilot error, by letting one's browser send too much information based on where you're visiting. Basically, you fell into a trap that's very easy to fall into but mostly due to the way browsers are written to make tons of assumptions and not really let the pilot control all aspects of the flight. And definitely a whack upside the head for the IPB designers who let this happen at all. . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hobbit @ Sep 15 2007, 10:52 AM) </div> It has happened to me several times when I used Google to search PriusChat. Most times not only does the viewing option change, but I also end up being logged off PriusChat.
Ah ha! I think we have something! Personally, I have to get out to the garage and cut some wood. But the rest of you are free to sleuth and experiment all you want. Which reminds me, Hobbit. I think I might have improved on you canopy stabilizing 2x4s. I'll send pictures. Have fun storming the castle.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JimboK @ Sep 15 2007, 11:08 AM) </div> I've had Google do that to me too. It happens any time I search the forum from Google, or at least most of the time. Tom
I've used Google to search the site, without it changing my viewing defaults... I'm using FireFox, in Windows 2K Pro. I have also used Google search for this site using IE 7 in XP pro.... never changed my viewing defaults. Not sure why some are having this issue. Maybe it's a random, wandering thing that I'll get hit with sometime....?
I happened to me also - I had been using Google to search the site since the search engine always blows up on me. It changed to outline mode- but I knew the board did not change because the other computer on my desk- the view of Priuschat did not change. And I must say- outline mode is horrible...worst change since 2003. Now on Standard mode...
This has also happened to me. I normally use standard mode. I think that Google looks for pages on PriusChat, that it will find a page with a different address that shows you the different mode. Then either a cookie is stored on your computer that says that you use PriusChat in outline mode (or whatever mode you use), or your PriusChat user account (if you are logged in) stores information that you use PriusChat in standard, linear+ and outline. Well, at least that is what I think happens.
