So here we are, my wife and I driving to drop the kids off on our way to work when a suicidal raccoon decides to leap into the path of our car. So what does a bumper and fender cost on these things?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ACD @ Oct 28 2007, 08:48 AM) </div> I imagine the racoon hates you some what more than you hate him/her. We have suicidal kangaroos and emus, what I'd give to just have racoons to dodge. Sorry, in a smart a**e mood, I have no prices for panels.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(patsparks @ Oct 28 2007, 12:57 AM) </div> Wow. You guys in Australia spell that body part with an "e" on the end? I'll aSSume the "e" is silent? (Unlike the body part.)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ACD @ Oct 27 2007, 04:18 PM) </div> It should be covered under the Comprehensive section of your auto policy. Also, animal hits do not normally impact the renewal or premium charge decision for the policy, so there should be no hesitance on your part to request coverage for the hit.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Oct 28 2007, 03:37 PM) </div> No, you refer to the spelling for a donkey type animal, we spell it the english way with an A at the start an E on the end and RS in the middle. It's the right way to spell it. Think of the sound a pirate snake might make. Arrrr SSSSSe but a little shorter. You see, if I kick your mule here I'll get a fine from the RSPCA!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ACD @ Oct 27 2007, 06:18 PM) </div> The rear bumper cover is mostly hollow and made from a black thermal plastic. When I backed into a post, my repair came in at about $1,500 but that included fixing the quarter panel, tail light and paint: Bob Wilson
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(patsparks @ Oct 28 2007, 02:44 AM) </div> It's the <strike>right</strike> ENGLISH way to spell it. Ah. I would consider your body part spelling a slang term. Not that you need a sling for your slang. A collloquialism or area dialect. Here the donkey and the body part are equivalent in spelling since so many are the south end of a horse going north, or a horse's A**.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(qbee42 @ 2007 10 27 20:47) </div> Hey, ACD, I could send you a whole new one if you like. Several, even. Yeah, whatta buncha smartasses, eh? Or is it bright arses? Could we settle on cheeky?
I believe it... 'coons can get huge, and can weigh like 30 lbs. It's like hitting a sack of sand. Sorry to hear about it. No idea the cost.
I hit a truck tire tread on the freeway, and it wiped out the lower grill, foglight and bumper, and slapped the right front door denting it. $1300 later it was fixed. New bumper, grill, fog light and repaint door. Comprehensive - $500 deductable, but $1300 total. Good luck. This tire tread was about the size of a 6' gator, never hit a racoon, though. I saw one in my neighborhood, that looked as big as a small bear. Be careful out there, humans, and critters alike.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(subarutoo @ Oct 31 2007, 12:58 PM) </div> Raccoons can carry rabies, which makes things even worse. Where they do not have natural predators, raccoons can become very aggressive toward even humans.
What a way to go. Can you get a set of PC raccoon warning whistles? I've always used the deer ones on prevoius cars, but no good place to put them on a Pri.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusincc @ Nov 2 2007, 01:23 AM) </div> Put them under the bumper, after all that's where the racoons need chasing from. Sorry this is way off topic and a bit in poor taste but here goes. A**e is an English term referring to the buttocks, first recorded circa 1400 (in arce-hoole) and is commonly used in English speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, parts of Canada and former parts of the British Empire. In the United States and other parts of Canada the variant form a** is used. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arse You can't argue with wikipedia. As we speak English I think the English spelling is the proper one. My theory is the spelling a** was used to avoid swearing :I was talking about the mule mum"
