Remember when the Lexus LS 600h was on the way, and there was head-scratching aplenty about the $100K+ price and the delay? At the time, Lexus said it only planned to sell 2,000 of the hybrid cruisers per year, and that they already had orders for 1,650 of them. Then the car came out, and in spite of being treated rather unkindly by the motoring press and boasting a less-than-stellar MPG improvement, it has sold 6,093 worldwide through October. The car only went on sale in July. Full Article holy crap! ~818 were sold in NA and about 500 in Europe.
Guess it pretty much proves the point of that Ford(?) commercial, people want to drive anything with a hybrid name on it, they don't care if it actually about the actual fuel efficiency.
If you go over to the Lexus forum, the LSh owners do state that mpg isn't why they bought an LSh. They bought it because it's the most technologically advanced Lexus they could buy. They actually cited low emissions as one of the reasons as well as the fact that it's a LWB, it's like an eco-limo. It has LED headlights, advanced Pre-Collision System that even monitors your face. It has a forward facing camera and several radars onboard. In fact, if you do get into an accident with this car, you had to be doing something stupid.
It's the same people that say it'll take 10 years to recoup the "premium" It's the same people that can't afford an LSh and would rather drive an Korean-made Aveo to work then drive a Lexus. If you ask them if they really would drive an Aveo, they'll probably flip you off too lol.
If I ever win the lottery, that will be 819! Then I'll ship it to the UK and take a little drive looking for the producer of "Top Gear." I'd love to see Clarkson in the "wrong seat" of a 600h! . . . For good measure, have Alabama tags and a "fishin' rod" holder in the back window and a small, "Sweet Home Alabama" with a battle flag on the back of the driver and passenger head rests. HEY!!!! What is the world speed record for a hybrid electric production car!!!! Bob Wilson
