From CNET News: Stanford University researchers have made a discovery that could signal the arrival of laptop batteries that last more than a day on a single charge. "It's not a small improvement," Cui said. "It's a revolutionary development." The article does not mention hybrid vehicles as a possible use, but surely an improvement like this would not go unnoticed by Toyota and others.
Until this gets out of the vaporware state and you can actually buy a battery like this, I won't hold my breath. If this technology is technically feasible, you won't likely see any real product for 3-5 years at a minimum. Which means that you won't see this in any mainstream product for 5-7 years. I'd love to be proven wrong, but after reading headlines like this day in and day out without seeing the products ever come to market, I always treat these types of press releases with a good deal of skepticism.
