A SPECIAL DAY This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occur on the same day. It is an ironic juxtaposition of events-- One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves... a groundhog.
Question is December 2012, coincidence? Whoever is the next Pres either gets voted out of office or back in in 2012. So who do we want to be responsible for "the end of days"?
I've got my money on 2018 as the end of the world. I'll call you in 2013 just to laugh in your face that we have five more years before we all die.
I am old enough to have been through The End Of The World several times. All I can say is that it is extremely boring.
I think the Myan calendar ends in 2012, but what did they know? That's why I don't use that calendar anymore.....
Ok, that made me laugh so much I was actually going to forward it to some people. Then I double-checked it and realized it dates from 2005. Which, to my mind is a shame. I wish they lined up every year. That comparison is a hoot.
The Mayan calendar is actually a source of much bad information... It doesn't "end" on any particular day. The Mayans were great astronomers, and through that ability discovered certain cyclical cycles in the sky. While i don't remember all of the details anymore, these cycles made their way into the calendar, and are simply another description similar to what we have - year, century, decade, millennium, etc... The "end" you're referring is simply the end of one era, and the beginning of another in their calendar. Whats particularly interesting is that the calendar was created something like 2300 years ago, but each era lasts something like 5000 years... They were able to calculate way back then exactly when certain astrological events would take place (in this case, i think it has something to do with the plane of the milkyway and the path of the sun or moon being perfectly perpendicular to it)
