A remake of the historic 1908 race from NY to San Francisco starts in NYC tomorrow. Several hypermilers from CleanMPG.com are participating and are just arriving in NYC as I post this. I don't think any of them are frequent posters here at PC, but they'll be posting updates at CleanMPG in THIS THREAD. Be sure to register at CleanMPG, Wayne runs a great forum and it contains a lot of information for getting great gas mileage no matter what kind of car you drive.
He was looking for a few of us Prius owners/PC members to participate, but apparently none of us could swing the time off. It would have been fun, if not a little tiring.
Pretty poor excuse don't you think? I would have done it if: - 1. I knew about it 2. I didn't live 10,000 miles away 3. It wasn't going to cost all my savings 4. My car was left hand drive 5. I was any good at getting good economy 6. I didn't have better things to do with my annual leave.
Ah, that's why it sounded familiar. Wayne was one of the Prius Hypermilers. Still, it's a shame no Prii. Of course, it *is* sponsored by Honda. Still, it would have been nice to compare the mileage of the various hybrids. Civic, Insight and Prius.
Not quite. Wayne's original plan was to have a gen 2 Prius, gen 1 HCH, and one of my Gen 2 HCH's. Sadly, I too had to decline due to prior commitments, and that temporarily spoiled the HCH-2 entry as well. It was very fortunate that Honda was able to provide a 2008 HCH. Cheers; MSantos
I was offered to go but decided not to. I have trouble sleeping and since this is a 24/7 race I definatlly would not be able to sleep in the car. It would be to unsafe for me to drive especially since the roads would be snow covered. If it was more of a 2 week race where we could stop and sleep for the night I would have gone. Maybe we could do a round the US tour or something in the summer having the last stop Hybridfest. I don't know. I wish everyone luck on the race.
