Hello all. My name's Dennis and I'm new here. I'm active on some guitar forums (thousands of posts, retired mod), so I know the drill. Yesterday I bought an '08 base model in Spectra Blue Mica. I love it. I drive 45 miles each way to work and wanted a more responsible and frugal vehicle. So far I seem to be getting an avg of 42 MPG on mixed country road driving of about 100 miles. Does the mileage get better? I'm not a leadfoot, just an average driver - Speed limit +5 or so. Maybe monday morning when I resume the commute it will improve. I'm still psyched.
Hi... welcome to the forum!!! I realize this is off topic, but I couldn't help but notice your username! My first name is E_d_e_n! (spelled it like that because I don't like being google-able!) I'm assuming you have a daughter with my same name? How cool - how old is she? Oh - and regarding your MPG - read this! It will help!
Welcome to PC the long lost dad of Hemi4Prius. You mileage will improve as the car beds in. How was your fuel consumption compared to the EPA figures in your last car? Expect a similar ratio in a Prius. EG, if your last car got 16mpg but had an EPA rating of 20mpg and you don't change the way you drive expect your prius fuel consumption to be 20% higher than the EPA too.
Welcome to PriusChat, Edensdad! First thing to do is check your tire pressure. Many here inflate to 42 psi front and 40 psi rear. An under inflated tire doesn't roll as easily and uses more energy. Have fun driving! :welcome:
Hi Dennis, Yes, your mileage will get better with time. My lowest mpg tank since buying the car was the very first one. 40.1 mpg My car is fully broken in with 16k+ miles now, but I still find that my mileage is going up slowly as I am still breaking in. I now get about 50 - 52 on my commute, but weekend driving (short trips) brings the average down to 49 mpg. Lots of info here to improve your mpg if that's what you are looking for.
I have a beautiful 16 year old daughter named Eden Elizabeth. So years ago I registered an email account with Edensdad@..... and it stuck. My last car was a 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup. 19 MPG City/23 highway. I averaged 21 or so. Thanks for the welcome. I have a few questions, but I'll search out the answers and post if I can't find them. Dennis >^..^<
Edensdad, your mileage will improve. Everyone here told me with break in and better driving practice I would have improved mileage over the first 5000 miles or so. I found I went from 42 to 48 mpg in the Wisconsin winter (We moved here last year from Spring Hill, FL!) I am sure you will do even better without the snow drifts and -32 mornings to contend with. I was torn between your Blue and the Barcelona Red I chose. Enjoy the new ride!
