Okay, it must be officially spring now. The swamp behind the house is suddenly full of peepers, as of today. . _H*
Yep, spring has sprung. I got my first 80 MPG commute last week. Although sleet on Sunday morning got me questioning it.
Ditto here in Merlin; 75 deg F yesterday, 26 deg expected tonight. Cherry blossoms are starting to pop. But I do see the daily commute MPG s-l-o-w-l-y creeping upward. Bring on the peepers, forsythia, jonquils, etc, I'm lovin' it!
Spring? That's one of the missing seasons in Wisconsin. We have fall. winter, and road construction. The glacier in my front yard is slowing melting but that must be due to glacial warming from the 4 cars parked in my neighbor's driveway. Those huge snowpiles in Walmart's parking lot should be gone by July 4 if we're lucky.
We have two seasons: Winter and August. It's 25° F today. We lost some of the snow, but it snowed again yesterday. It looks like it will be clear for the rest of the week. Maybe the sun will melt some more snow. I have taken the crampons off of my boots, as it is now possible to walk on pavement and dirt if you pick your path carefully. I'm still wearing my winter coat, although I have gone out a couple of times with a spring coat. It wasn't comfortable, but one has to stand on principle occasionally. I have about a month or month and a half before we launch our boat. If it doesn't warm up some more, the yard will have to launch it on the ice. Tom
Jimbo, please tell of your 80 MPG commute: over how many miles ? round trip or one-way? My guess is that you run about 35 mph, over mostly level & occasional mild grades ... ? ... Thanks!
Must be. I'm finally getting under 6 l/100 km. Actually got it down to 4.7 last week, then we got hit by another "cool snap" (just below freezing), so it drifted back up to 5.7. Today it's dropping again, now at 5.4. With the weather report I'm expecting below 5 by next week. Woopee! We don't have a lot of snow laying around, thankfully. I don't want to think of what will happen back east when those mountains of snow melt! Time for flotation accessories!
I heard peepers last night for the first time too, here in RI. It was a welcome sound. Being so close to the ocean we don't usually get a nice spring either. I hate watching the weather and hearing how it was 75F and sunny 10 miles inland while we are sitting in pea soup fog and 58F. But the free AC in the summer is nice. I am looking forward to seeing what mpg I can get this summer with the new Prius. And it's exactly 2 months until my boat goes in.
