Help! My friends are leaving in droves. My family goes to great lengths to avoid me. I love my Prius so much I just can't quit talking about it. I fear I am becoming a pain in the pulverable rear end. Do I need professional help? Or should I just get new friends and ignore the family? Last option: sell the Prius? Never! Thanks for any advice. Bob
Had the same problem, and people can get seriously annoyed or jealous as you tout the Prius... especially at the gas pump. I just don't bring it up anymore unless asked. That seems to work. Former Prius Zealot
Ah,, just ignore the family and you can come here and gloat with us its just Prius envy,,, they are just jealous of you and dont' want to admit it
It took about 3yrs for me to stop talking about my car. My education has caused me quite a few friendships though. After an increase in awareness I simply could not handle some of my friend's habits and they could not handle my educating them on why they should stop those habits. LOL I've gained many new friends with similar outlooks to my own though so no loss.
Your friends and family will never understand how much you love your Prius unless they own one themselves. Just come here and brag because WE understand!!!
Love your signature line... however, if milk came out of MY nose, I'd be seriously worried! My advice is... find a NEW passion, not to replace, but to enhance... For us, we're going on a cruise! It's all I'm talking about now (well, except for the fact that "we save so much money on petrol driving the Prius, that we can afford a cruise!")
First, thanks to everyone for all the "advice". A cruise, hmmmmmmm, it would have to be a ferry so I could take my car. Another life observation: I believe 99% of the worlds problems are caused by people who are overly impressed by their own importance. I started this thread after reading several posts by a bunch of children who simply can't have a civil conversation without injecting some kind of political rhetoric. I felt things needed to lighten up a bit. And yes, I have made several new friends. Both here and at home. Those others will come back and I intend to keep talking about my car, even if only to myself. Why do you think they put those mirrors in the visors? I even figured out how to turn the light on. (Did you ever wonder how to tell an italic period from a regular one?) Bob
same here but i dont mind.....i was wondering if anyone here talks to the people who pass them up on the highway....hehe.....i have been pretty much sticking to 60 mph because getting where im going 5 minutes later just doesnt matter anymore. when they blow past me doing 75 i say "yeah ....whats your gas mileage buddy???" (it used to be....get up there and flush em out -state troopers that is.....LOL) i guess i can say both eh???
I'm not sure if this 'support group' is going to cure your obsession or make it worse. It's quite alright to be excited, but maybe your friends and family would appreciate you being less evangelical. :brick:
My take on this thread is this: you have to decide what's more important to you: friends and family or your desire to be a bore about your car. Don't misunderstand: I am a happy Prius owner, and I'll talk about it to anyone who shows an interest. But I also know that not everyone appreciates my personal enthusiasms, and I (mostly) try to keep a curb on my topics of conversation. It helps to have wide-ranging interests so I have other things to talk about with people. You can wax ecstatic here all you want, we'll understand!
Hey, when you pass 60 (years that is) a lot of things take 5 minutes longer. On the plus side, it gives you a chance to smell the roses. Bob
Don't worry, I will. In a couple of hours I am leaving for a trip. Don't know how often I'll get the computer fired up. If you folks don't hear from me 'till next week don't think I'm mad. Just gone! So many people to tell, so little time. Bob
Thanks Sheepdog. It's almost 10:00 PM ET and I am at my brothers house. Got an alarm set for 3:45 AM so my brother and I can catch a plane to Lansing, MI. I hope the hotel my brother picked has Internet service so I can catch up. Most do these days. Bob
After installing a 7.5kW Solar Generating System on my home, I went through the same thing. Those who were smart, listened, and bought their own and are now saving BIG bucks! I pay LESS than $350.00 total a year for power in my home. I went online in 2004 and so far I have generated over 55,000kWh of electrical power!!! Now I have the Prius, same thing, I spend hours and hours figuring out how it works, how to maximize its potential, and save money. I tell my friends and co-workers about it. Those who get it, get it!!! Those who don't, just spend money hand over fist for energy!!! After all is said and done, I know that I have saved more money in energy costs than those who dismiss my ideas. Bottom line is, PEOPLE EITHER GET IT, OR THEY DON'T!!! We Prius owners GET IT!!! 73 de Pat KK6PD
Hi Bob, have a great trip. When you get back, I suggest group therapy: Start a Prius club! It works for me.
i did the same thing when i got my Prius, but 1) i did it 4 years ago when 95% of people had no clue what a Prius was 2) gas was $1.50 a gallon and everyone thought i was crazy for spending $22,000 for a Prius when a Corolla was going for $16,000 so because of the two points above, i pissed off waaay more people because almost everyone asked the perfect opener when i mentioned my new car... "What's a Prius?" ... which would be the last words for the next 30 minutes uttered out of "their" mouths
