I just got my Prius a week ago. Occassionally it feels like it jumps forward, almost like its a slipping transmission. I don't know much about cars, though. Is this normal? It happens when I am stopped, and i feel the jump. Any help I can get is appreciated. It is a brand new, 2008 Prius.
It will do that when the ICE starts up, just keep your foot firmly on the brake and you will be fine.
The Prius doesn't have a transmission in the conventional sense of the word, so I can assure you it's not the transmission slipping. It's just as the other poster said: keep your foot on the brake. Tom
On the other end of the scale, and also not to worry, if you step hard on the go-pedal you may hear the engine "race" in what sounds like the transmission slipping. It's just your Prius trying to meet your high demand for acceleration efficiently; the ICE is spinning one motor as a generator to power the other motor to make you GO!
