Yesterday I finally came back from my South Africa trip. (from Jo'burg to Vancouver almost 30hrs travel - do not try this at home...). On my way back from the airport, I took one of Vancouver's Prius taxis (lots and lots of them at the airport). I sat up front, to chat with the driver, and to look at the display (even though I own a Prius in Canada, mine is imported from the US, and I'd never seen the L/100km display before). Turns out that the driver has been driving it for about 3 years, and has so far over 300,000km on it (!), with a lifetime avg. of roughly 5L/100km (roughly 47mpg). According to the driver, the Integrity tires lasted for about 130k km, after which he put on some Michelin tires, which are still in use. All in all, he (and I) is extremely impressed by how reliable the car is. He hopes he can take it all the way to 1M km... though we're both waiting to see what comes next from Toyota.
We have an ocassional poster here, carbot, who's on his 2nd. The Gen 1 ( CARBOT1 ) only went 1 yr before he sold it and bought one of the first Gen 2's ( CARBOT2 ) in Jan 04. Last week he passed 200,000 miles. Mine at 78000 mi in 30 mo's is a piker in comparison. Go Prius.
Or just about one light second, which somehow strikes me just now as kind of a nice way to think about it. -Chap
