Maybe they can take the heavy armor out of the tanks to get better milage? Or remove those nasty guns and cannons, to improve coefficent drag?
Is it me or does it seem that the HMMWV (military Hummer) gets the same gas mileage as a regular Hummer?
Taken at face value, it's interesting. But I have to wonder ... how could they have possibly chosen comparable civilian vehicles? As far as I know we civilians have nothing comparable to nuclear powered aircraft carriers, tanks, or fighter jets. Then again, maybe I don't shop at the right places.
Unfortunately armored vehicles are heavy. Can't exactly put plastic panels on 'em like a smart car. Fuel economy be damned I'd put as much armor as possible to keep the men and women safe that are keeping our families safe. Knowing that we're not at Fred's, I'll end with that and hopefully someone will refrain from posting a comment about how the best way to keep them safe would have been to never send them there in the first place. :-\
hasn't anyone here read about the new hybrids the military is thinking of deploying? powerful enough to power an airfield.. or small city.. while they can run in EV mode for 30+ miles? this was back in 05 i think....
