The local news station 32WLKY just showed a tease for a segment on hypermiling (non Prii specific) for next week. These guys only needed SEVERAL YEARS and high gas prices(who cares about the environment, right?) to figure it out. It's so funny to hear them talk about it now. If only the majority would follow our lead sooner!
I do not know. Even folks here think it's stupid to do it. Some people want to do 90 and they just want the car to give them great mpg while doing it. Most are just not learning anything.
We should only hope that hypermiling becomes a national craze, especially with younger drivers. (The SAFER aspects of hypermiling, of course.)
Yeah, I told my coworkers about hypermiling forever ago and they kinda laughed it into the tree hugger category, then recently they bring it up because 'the news' said it's dangerous, and I bet you after next weeks segmant on how to save gas by hypermiling, my co workers will come full circle and want to start doing it. Why does the local news have to be the end all?
Hypermiling in the broad sense is about more than just driving slow. One can drive fast on average and still retain some aspects of hypermiling like keeping the tach under a specific rpm, coasting/gliding to stops or on off-ramps, etc. In fact it has been shown that with non-hybrid vehicles speed is less important than abrupt stops and take offs (agressive driving) where your speed is constantly being altered.
