4,500 miles after the MAINT REQD counter was reset, you should see the MAINT REQD light blink a few times when making the car READY. This continues until you reach 5,000 miles. At 5,000 miles after the counter was reset, the MAINT REQD light should come on solid. If you haven't seen either of the above happen, perhaps the counter was reset at some point.
taggart, Yes, unless you took your Prius in for for an early oil change service (as some do who want to remove the break-in oil which they think may contain minute metallic particles). In that case you should check the miles it was done at on your copy of the work order & add 4,500 miles to that figure (which is when you'll 1st notice the light only coming on at startup). If you add 5,000 miles to the work order figure, that's when the "Maint. Req'd" light will come on & stay on. The light will always be seen only after these 2 intervals from whatever mileage the previous oil change was done at. Edit : Boy, you last 2 guys just jump right in there & don't give a slow typer a chance. It makes me look like I don't read the entiere thread before I post a response. i think turning off the backup beep or seatbelt beep can also clear the current maintenance reqd interval if you hold it to long or something?
That may be it. When I bought it, it had 13 miles on it. I disabled the backup and seatbelt beep well after that. Now all I need to do is figure out how to reset the maint reqd light, since it's currently not on.
So that I understand completely, if I go ahead and reset the light at say 5,500 miles, will it start to come on at 10,000 miles or revert back to 9,500 miles? In other words, is it set to come on at 4,500 9,500 14,500 or 4,500 from where it is reset? If the latter is true, I need to reset it at 10,000 on the button to get it to start coming on at 14,500. Clear as mud?
The latter; pls see my post #3. After you reset, the light will start blinking 4,500 miles from the mileage when you reset; and will come on solid 5,000 miles later.
Check owners manual for Maint Light. My 05 comes on at 4500 miles and blinks for a few seconds. At 4800 miles it stays on constantly after starting. Did you have the oil changed recently? Maybe the mechanic reset the feature as part of your oil change. My shop stated they did not know how to reset and I do it after every oil change.
