I was in Vancouver, BC last week staying in the Burnaby area. I observed very few Prius on the road, two or three the most, a few Camry Hybrid, like 10 or so. When we visited down town and the water front, Prius appears every where, they came in yellow, green , black and white colors. Then I realized why they are not so popular in Vancouver. Now you got the picture. I estimate 80% of the cabs in Vancouver are Prius, 10% Corolla & Camry Hybrid and 10% big American sedans and mini-vans.
It's probably more likely that cars cost much more in Canada compared to the US. From what I'm told (correct me if I'm wrong), toyota Canada is mostly a no-haggle operation. You pay MSRP and that's it. A premium package plus Nav (I assume that's touring + leather) is: TOTAL for Finance/Cash $39,431.35 off the lot. YIKES!
All auto pricing is higher in Canada, the Prius is relatively just expensive as others. The MSRP for top of the line premium +nav package is CD$33,410 equivalent to US$31,405. The rest is the GST/PST tax, I believe it is about 10%-12% depending on province. When I left the gas price went up to CD$1.51/liter or US$5.37/gal. I was happy to see $3.69/gal here this morning. saw a blizzard pearl Prius 3rd gen today in Burnaby, BC, it has rims and side mirror turn signals license plate 585 WKL just wondering if your on PRIUS chat ?
I think he was saying that people wouldn't want to drive a car that looks like a cab. He was just not observant enough. BTW, the price in Canada has dropped and the price in the US has gone up. So we're closer. Even here in redneck Alberta where PU trucks and SUVs are king you will see quite a few Prius. A lot more now than when I purchased Pearl. I saw a gaggle of GIII white Prius at my local dealership a few months ago, all going to a "fleet". It was quite a sight, probably intentionally parked next to the main street. There had to be 15 to 20 of them! Last week I began to notice Co-Op Taxi Prius (they are white with green strips added). AHA I thought!
I believe most people in BC are in love with their big pick-ups and I guess the gas prices @ $1.30 per litter isn't high enough? I happen to own two Hybrids a 2006 HCH2 and a 2006 Prius. I like 4.5 ltr. per 100 Kil. results. Big oil sucks!!! H

Sounds like Beng's old Prius (he traded it in for a CT) so maybe someone else picked it up second hand? It's $1.449 down here. That might do it. Even in Alberta, it's getting up there (over $1.10/litre) so some people will cross the "$100/fill up" threshold.
