As you've noticed we've had several trolls posting today. I should have some access until the wee hours this morning and will work to stomp them out. That said, I just want to remind everyone, if you see a troll post just hit the little "report" button on the post. With a brief explaination of why you're reporting. Do NOT reply to the troll and esp. do not quote the troll. If you feel you must you can reply "Troll Reported" without quoting, but that's really not necessary. As soon as one of us gets to it we can instantaneously delete all posts by that troll and ban them in a matter of seconds. Thanks all for your cooperation.
i would love to help.. but.. uhh.. i'm just a moderator for my forum.. i don't hold the powers like you do. hehe even if i do camp on forum spy all day long...
When I initially signed up for PC, I received my acceptance e-mail almost immediately. Is it possible to delay that automated response for 24 hours? A troll would probably not come back to post if he had to wait.
I was reporting trolls and posts this morning as fast as the 60 second rule would allow. When I saw no response and no moderators online, I went so far as to email Danny and Evan personally. Sorry if I got carried away.
not sure if that got Danny's attention or not...it usually doesn't do any good to e-mail me...if I'm online I'll have one tab/window open to my e-mail and one to priuschat.
I try to be good, and I spread the word if someone quotes a troll. I have PMed a person or 2 who has quoted a troll to let them know the post will look out of context once the troll's posts have been removed and they might like to edit their post. Not sure if this is OK though. I have been guilty of a "troll feeding frenzy" once in a while, sometimes it's fun!!
Just thought I would bump this topic up so anyone new to the forum knows what to do and to also give a refresher for those of us that have been here a while. Please read the first post! Nothing has changed much other than the report icon is the little flag on the left. <-------- Remember dont feed the trolls!
Thanks for the bump. I edited Evan's first post to make sure the button looks like the current "report" button. I would like to add that replying, quoting, or otherwise acknowledging the troll in the thread really does make our jobs more difficult. Either that or makes the thread confusing later. Here's why: There's a function we use called "delete as spam" which allows us to ban the individual and delete all their posts. All at once. The problem is that there will be multiple remaining posts that say, "troll reported." But they will refer to nothing which will lead to replies asking about the troll that's no longer there. Get the picture? It's also bad when you quote obscenities. Please don't do that; after the troll's posts are deleted your quote will remain. Please simply report the troll and walk away. Thanks. Oh yeah. I have to add that we all have lives and families and spouses and all that stuff too. Though one of us is usually around most of the time, sometimes it takes a while for one of us to see the reports. It's my intention to blame Evan since he's out of the country.
What? A real life? Well, I suppose you can be forgiven. Actually, you guys are usually very quick. There is the odd occasion when no mods are around and some troll is going nuts, but it rarely lasts long. All those PriusChat alarms going off on your cell, your car, your work computer, and your home seem to be pretty effective. And yeah, blame Evan - he blames you all the time for no good reason. I interrupted him in the middle of a football game, of all things. You'd think he was on holidays or something.
