I'm a new owner and went the hard way - trying to fix a builder. I have the hybrid warning light on the MFD and the master warning light on. I bought the Autoenginuity scan tool and read codes P31bf from the HV ECU and P3163 from the CCS. Anyone have a description for these codes, ideas?
Sorry, I do not find either code in my Toyota repair manual and assume your scan tool is not working properly. If you want to check for yourself you can access Toyota repair manual docs at techinfo.toyota.com which is a subscription website.
Perhaps it might be helpful to let your reader(s) know a little more info than merely the fault code(s). You mention that your ’04 Prius is a “fixer†without any more detail as to how/why that is. Is it a salvaged vehicle? What exactly does you mean? Collision damage for example, might render an erroneous code, if that is in fact what you mean by fixer. I had a defective ECU that controled the SKS, and the tech told me he couldn't get a 'proper' reading. The ECU's can run a good amount of coin to replace, too.
Yeah, it was a rebuilder. It had a fairly light hit in the front end. I subscribed to techinfo.toyota.com and downloaded as much as possible. I determined that I hadn't locked the service plug and that cleared up the hybrid warning. I have an inkling the HV ECU was damaged as a result so I bought a used one. I'll try that next week. According to my scan software it also looks like one of the inverter temp sensors is bad. Thanks.
