Just another reason to thank the engineers who designed the Prius. A very popular car that is hard to steal. Forbes has an interesting article. Link below. America's Most- And Least-Stolen Cars- Yahoo! Autos Article Page
And in a related article on the same site: "What your car says about you... Toyota Prius Base MSRP: $22,000 What it says about you: You are most likely a successful baby boomer with a median income of $95,400. You are an independent thinker and a trendsetter who has concern and compassion for human kind." I need a better job...
Where does that article mention the Prius? Is the Prius difficult to steal? I haven't read or heard either way.
The Prius is in the slideshow of least stolen cars found here. It says "2005 - 2007 models Claim frequency: 0.8 (per 1,000 for each insured vehicle year) Average loss payment per claim: $4,604"
Funny that the people that buy the Escalade and H2's to "pimp them out" are basically calling theives over to them by they're "bling" haha. I have to say it does suck about the F250/350. I've seen and heard of multiple thefts of those trucks and the majority were all commercial or work vehicles with $1,000+ worth of tools and supplies in the back toolboxes.
Who would want to steal a Prius??? Hahaha! That's funny. . . . When gas was at $4.50, I'm actually suprised the Prius wasn't at the top of the most stolen list. (Prius with full tank of gas + police chase = Crown Victoria running out of gas)
Rybold, the main reason Prius aren't stolen very often is it is very difficult to do. You either need the FOB, a flatbed truck, or the smartkey computer and the main ECU to swap out with ones that work with the thieves FOB. There are many much easier targets. Most vehicle thefts are done to get the "valuable parts" out of the car, such as airbags and cat. converters. Prius has those as well as the traction battery. It's just too much work to get the car away to the shop.
Notice it says "theft-claim". Maybe these and the H2s aren't stolen, but 'lost' in a deep lake when the owners get sick of paying for the gas.
