The right brake light is out on my Prius. The dealer quoted $450 for the part and of course labor on top of that to install it. I have two questions: 1 - Anybody have a cheaper way to buy this part? 2 - Any recommendations on repair manuals for the Prius? Thanks for any help you can provide - this will be the first time I've had to work on car.

The brake lights are LEDs, but is it always required to change the whole assembly whenever the lights out? This sounds excessive..... Maybe you just need the LED light module for fixing?
Let's see if I can preclude any further uncertainty re: my earlier post. At a quoted price of $450, I nice person-u-me-d the OP was referring to the one-piece tail light assembly. This unit does in fact house an LED brake light array; and three incandescent bulbs for turn signals, reverse and running lights. There are somepost/threads floating around in the data base about there being a possibility of replacing individual LEDs. Use of the search function should turn them up. IIRC, a used but good tail light assembly goes for ~$150.
Usually you can fine one on eBay for much less than new. There are even some 2006-up NEW lights for $183 right now. You could replace both (to match) for less than the dealer charges for one.
