Hello. I am new here. I am looking to replace my wife's escape. I have a decent sized commute everyday and would want her to take my crv, which I love, and get me something I can drive that gets good mpg and is comfortable. Here is the problem. I am rather large. Like 6'5" 400# I fit in the crv nice. The main thing that allows this is the lack of a center console in it. After looking all over the internet at every single car available, I think the prius might be the best bet, as it has a shifter that is on the dash. But it has a console. Not one that gets bigger in the knee area like most cars unexplicably do, but a console nonetheless. How hard ($$$) would it be to just take it out? What do you guys think? Thanks
Thanks Dave. What do you think would happen with the power cord though? Is there carpet underneath it? What the heck would I use for a cupholder? They need to make stuff for big people. Heck, they have even started making trucks with giant consoles in them that negate the reason some big people even would drive a truck.
I wonder if you could just move it back about 9-12 inches so that you would still have the cup holders and storage. Still seems as if it will be tight.
It is a tite squeeze to get into my crv. Once in though, I am comfortable. I drove to Iowa from Texas overnight, was comfortable the whole time, wasn't even sore the next day. Moving it back would certainly be a good idea. Do you know anyone in Austin that could do the work? That is where I am as well.
You know, what I think I would do is remove the center console, then cut off the bottome 6-8 inches or so (you'd have to look to see how much could be cut off without interfering with function, then reinstall it such that the top of the console would rest at about the same level as the top of the seat-bottom. You could then retain your cup holders, power point, and the storage (all but the bottom hidden drawer. I haven't gone out to look to see if this is actually possible, but can't think of a good reason you couldn't make it work.
Also note, the SKS room oscillator is between the rear cup holders and the console itself. I think the VSC yaw ECU is underneath. It would be the best place, since that would be the center of the car. Edit: I have confirmed, the Yaw sensor is under the console.
