Well my poor baby isn't dent free any longer. My turn to be run into. On the freeway at rush hour, an ambulance (well ok, non-emergency medical transport vehicle) goes to change lanes and rams into a buick who is then pushed into me while we were traveling 40 mph. The poor buick is probably totaled, the poor lady just bought it used yesterday for 3 grand, it was in good shape too, before it was hit. Now her rear bumper, trunk hood, and front bumper are all toast. and to add injury to insult she had to be taken away in a real ambulance. And the driver of hte non emer ambulance had the nerve to tell her so what if you just bought your caqr, I am going to be in trouble for this. And she also claimed that she was paying attention to what she was doing, just couldn't explain how she could do that while paying attention. The good news for me is that I am fine other than a headache and my poor baby really did her job of protecting me, the bumper absorbed all the shock like it was supposed to and just pushed in the middle and deformed some out hte sides. The police officers were very impressed with how little damage I had compared to the buick. Somehow I don't think I will get very far with the diminished value arguement either but I am going to make it nonetheless. Oh, and hte ambulance did not have her proof of ins, and didn't even know what company they use. Great. Thank goodness there will be a police report. My sympathies to all of you out there who have had to patch up your baby. Fernsmom
Ambulance drivers are some of the worst drivers on the road. They can't make it to be cops or fire fighters and they think the lights and siren make them invincible. Sorry.
Well she wasn't running lights and sirens, but the lady who got whacked in the middle told me that she saw her on her cell phone when she looked in the rearview mirror after getting hit. That is illegal now here in Cali. I am still astounded by how good of a job my car did of protecting me, the bumper performed exactly like it is supposed to. The lady who got whacked in the middle called me this am and she is really hurt, numbness in arm and leg, back pain, neck pain, and she is low income so uses a clinic and they don't deal with car accidents. She has no idea where to go for care. I feel for her. Fernsmom
The insurance company for the ambulance is responsible for her medical costs. She should get a copy of the police report, then she can go to any hospital/doctor that she wants to, really. Not some clinic that can't deal with it. It may take months for the settlement, but insurance settlements are understood by medical offices. Really. She might think about a lawyer, too. Hope that her comment about the cellphone use got into the police report.
Do not pass go, Do not collect $200 CALL A LAWYER RIGHT AWAY. This is exactly why the Lawyers are there. The insurance company will do everything in THEIR best intrest to help you out!!! GET A LAWYER!!! I speak from personal experience! Good Luck! Pat KK6PD
You get hit by an ambulance, and you can't get medical attention without going through a lawyer? :twitch:
Seems to be a lot of Prii are getting hit lately. Like they have bulls eyes on them. Stopped in a store last night, parked by myself, plenty of room in the parking lot. When I came out a Hummer H2 was parked practically on top of me, encroaching over the line delineating the parking space. I felt he was trying to intimidate me! He could have parked anywhere else in the lot, even closer to the entrance. I actually had to squeeze inside my door so as not to scratch my door on his Hummer.............. Think he was jealous?
