Panel, not 'car czar,' will oversee auto industry restructuring: U.S. official One of the comments on the story by Joe Public.
How many other industries can unskilled workers, with barely a High School level of education, expect benefits and salary normally reserved for Management? What is GM's pension liability now? At least $90 billion? I do know that based on my background, I would strongly recommend GM use robots and automate the entire process. Once you start paying somebody +$40 an hour to put lugnuts on wheels, a robot is far cheaper for a long term solution
The title "Czar" of anything has nasty, autocratic allusions associated with it. Our 1st U.S. "czar" was Wm. Simon, who was appointed by Nixon as head of the new "Federal Energy Administration." Who applied the word "Czar"? I found it in a Time magazine article dated Dec. 10, 1973, but I'm not sure when the term was first used for the director of a US govt. agency. This title, or anyone functioning as such, has no place in what we were convinced would be a new 'enlightened' Obama govt.
