This is a small problem, but annoying to me. Before the new look, I would go to a forum or a Unread Posts list and unread thread titles would be bold. I'd read a thread, hit the back button, and the thread title I had read would be regular, so it was easy to see what was read and what wasn't. Sometimes I'd miss the last page or if the thread was active a new post had arrived while I was reading, so seeing the just-read thread title in bold would send me back to see what I missed. With the new look, hitting the back button shows all the previously bold titles still bold, so I don't know if I missed something. If I reload the page, titles of threads I've read are regular. But it's a pain to have to reload the page every time. I'm using Safari 3.2.1 on OS X 10.4.11 on this computer, but I think it also happens with the same browser on the latest 10.5 OS version.
I have the same setup at home with the same result. I also have the same result at work, using Firefox and XP.
I have some other issues with the new layout: • I can no longer post using my RSS feed reader NetNewsWire. I keep forgetting this, and will type in something to post and when I hit return I get a message "Too few characters in the post please add characters" and it wipes out my post with no recovery. Previous to the new layout, I could post, but could not add attachments. The browser in NetNewsWire is based on Webkit, same as Safari for the Mac. • In Firefox, if I use the "Quick Reply" feature I get the WSOD (white screen of death). There is a separate thread on this problem. Seems to be the case with Firefox on any platform.
