Ive read quite a few posts on people not happy with their gas mileage so Im going to share my secret and dont worry I cant get rich by sharing this with anyone but you can do your own homework before you take a chance on it. I have a 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS and a 2001 BMW X5 3.0 and for the past 2.5years I have been using Pure ACETONE in my gas tank after every fill-up, dont freak out its not going to blow up your engine or anything like that, it will not burn your cylinders!!!! So how much you ask for every 10 Gallons of Unleaded Fuel use 3oz. of ACETONE only, nothing else, it cannot be mixed with any other solvents no other additives, you should see somewhere around a 25%-40% improvement on your gas gauge. So your asking why does this work, well its really simple and I think the big oil companies should be mandated to add Acetone to their supply line so its already at the pump when you fill up. Gas has a high surface tension, that is why you get buildup in your engine and carbon deposits, because much of the gas passing through is wasted and never combusts completely, when you add ACETONE you chemically reduce the surface tension of gas and the best part is a tiny bit goes a long way, it literally makes your gas a lighter substance for lack of a better word and it burns or combusts more completely with ACETONE, and finallly ACETONE is alot cheaper than spending $5+ for fuel additives everytime you fillup. REMEMBER!!!! 3oz. ACETONE for every 10Gallons of fuel, this will also work on DIESEL but you only need 2oz. of Acetone for every 10Gallons of fuel. ENJOY saving money, feel free to thank me all you want I accept compliments only no donations, LOL!
Forty percent? That's a pretty outlandish claim. No way I'd believe that without some serious proof. Besides, I'd rather not have paint remover anywhere near my car, or solvent in the gas tank liner. Snopes has a few things to say about it, too.
Rubbish. We've been through this one on an earlier thread - no reason to beat this dead horse again. Tom
Quitter. Come on, I'm sure we can make this at least a 10 page thread. 20 pages if someone brings up using HHO and Acetone. :deadhorse:
I must say I'm not entirely comfortable with these continued 'dead horse' references. Can we just not talk about it? out:
What about sheep or goats? Just to be able to say I'm on topic, acetone in the Prius fuel system is probably a bad idea. We have discussed this before.
I'm willing to bring up robot women powered by noisy two stroke motors, creepy robot walking "dogs" that are probably being developed to hunt us humans to extinction, and sheep that are soft and oh so fluffy Let the races begin!
Aren't Goats still fair game in Florida, until at least the end of this month. There is another thread about this!! Sheep however......
Fuel saving gadgets - a professional engineer's view: Acetone Summary: pretty unlikely to show much improvement. The rest of that site is a good survey of various claims people make for various devices and additives - and why they can't work.
The acetone claim was one of a handful of "miracle" fuel saving tricks reviewed on an episode of Mythbusters. Result: busted!
Hi All, Here is my conclusion from reading through all the Acetone stuff that has been out out before: The source of the Acetone hyperbolie is that in really old diesel trucks the Acetone helps to reduce fuel droplet size and improve combustion. But all modern diesels are using the high pressure injectors now, and the fuel droplet size is as small as it needs to get. Maybe some old diesels with worn-large injector orifices might benefit, but not new cars. Gasoline engines with properly functioning and clean fuel systems do not benefit much from acetone. Maybe there is a benefit down near the gasoline gel point temp (-60 F?). But not in normal operation.
But if you use acetone AND put magnets on the fuel line, you'll get another70% increase in mileage. So 40% plus 70% = 110%. Drive half a block and your tank will overflow!
And adding a HHO generator made from a mason jar will double that, so now we are talking > 200% improvement. A Hummer should go from 12mpg to 48mpg.
