In down economy, searches for big vehicles go up Sigh.... seems like the American public has such a short memory and is so shortsighted. It's not terribly surprising though.
Either that or they are getting squimish. In the past, many likely purchased a guzzler without a second thought. Now they question decisions like that... resulting in lots of online searching. .
When you lose your house, you need a vehicle large enough to live in. Maybe in a van, down by the river.
The tiniest person in my department owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. (I'm pretty sure she won't arm my airbag.) Although I can sleep in my Prius I can't live in it.
Oil prices are down, also car prices are down globally. And bigger the cars are, more have the prices dwindled down. So you can see now an increase of big car demand as those car seem to be more affordable to people. But as others have said. As economy gets better, oil consumption will again sky rocket, fuel prices will inevitably go up and those big car owners will again be hit. It is just a matter of time.
Most of the general likely still feel the need and want a large vehicle. Small cars are just a necessary downgrade to them.
The government has to make it very unpleasant to own a big car, and very pleasant to own a small one. Life is simple.
Simple! The auto trader 'searches' simply means that the poor slobs stuck with these land barges are looking to see what a beating they'd take, when it comes time to unload it for something more practical ... many Prius owners started the same way ... looking to see how little their gas guzzler will yield as a down payment. It doesn't mean folks went stupid. Well, maybe some did.
