The company is taking away our beepers and making us use texting for on-call. They'll let us expense $10 a month. My tracphone sucks for texting. How cheap can I get away with a text only device for maybe 10 messages a month? The money just keeps rolling out. And this is a year they've frozen salaries.
If this is a company related requirement, then they should pay 100% of the equipment costs, the monthly fees, and ALL the text charges. If you are Freelance, or Self employed, at least it's deductable as a buisness expense!!!
They should but they won't. Welcome to the new America. I used to work for a company the got bought by Computer Associates and they wanted us to buy our own laptops, a required purchase. I left.
When you say sucks for texting and maybe 10 messages a month, i really wonder why you would bother getting a new one. are you going to try to write essays using your cell phone? So you get a text telling you to come in... you reply with "ok" and head in. or am i missing something here?
umm so what is the issue? 10 texts per month. 20 cents per txt....that be $2 each way....$4. pocket the rest. man i wish i worked for a company as nice~!! obtw... my company cut pay from 10-25%
No, just my righteous indigantion. I don't head in when I get called though. I sit down at the PC I PAID FOR and log into work thru the internet connection I PAID FOR and fix someone else's off hours problem.
Looks like in the end I'll make out okay on this. But I had being forced to use pocket technology. I've become my father.
Yeah, i know how that is... Some parts of our "always connected" society really suck sometimes. A little over a year ago, i was stuck in my car in the middle of the first big snowfall of the year on a Saturday, and my boss called. It was apparently vitally important that i log in immediately to fix something in some code that wasn't going to be submitted for 5 months... man, i was ticked about that. But then there are good parts of it, too... i was sick yesterday and didn't have to take time off - i just logged in from home.
oooh u work from computer?? well, get gmail account. you can text directly from it. that way you wont have to pay anything...just have to constantly monitor your computer is all as far as pay cuts go... it seems to be par for the course. several jobs i had considered in the past have also cut their pay so it looks like jumping ship will not be easy either. add to that, new report this morning unemployment in Wa state just jumped to 9.2%...its still getting darker around here
So, please help me here, why on earth are you still with that company??? Uhh, just turn in your two week notice and work either for yourself or get another job. Rick #4 2006
I've been looking in all the trees but I haven't seen any jobs growing there. Hell, I don't even see Americans getting hired for anything in IT.
