good evening. i bought a new '09 a couple of months ago. one thing is driving me crazy: sometimes when i get in/off the car, i hear this metal on metal type of sound coming from the back of the car (rear wheel suspension?) but only from the driver’s side. same thing happens on the passenger’s side. It happens randomly but especially mornings. over speed bumps or when I’m driving-in general it has absolutely no problems/sounds. does anyone knows what is going on with this sound? Should I get the car checked? (but then, again, probably it’s not going to make any weird noise exactly when it’s supposed to make… ) Thanks a lot, in advance, dani
Is it a whining drill-like sound? (normally heard right after turning off or on the car) Is it a buzzing sound?
Take it to a dealer to eliminate the suspension possibility. You don't want to fool around with that, and in any case it's under warranty.
I had the same thing for awhile and discovered one of the back seats was not secured. They must be slammed rather hard to fully latch.
If it makes noise EVERY TIME you go over road bump, it could be the strut. Usually that happens when strut is worn/old. It could happen to new ones if you were unlucky to get a bad strut on your newer Prius. My friend's old minivan has this issue. It sqeaks every time the suspension is pressed such as going over bumps. I told him it was the strut, and the dealer confirmed it.
No, it's a short metal on metal sound. It happens on both sides, it depends on what side you are when you enter/exit the car. I believe is something related with weight distribution...
:welcome: Welcome to PriusChat, dani! Since it's a new car, take it to the dealer, they'll fix it no charge. And check out the local group.
