I have become really furstrated. I walk into the dealership knowing how much I want to spend. All of them turn me down. How much should I be paying for this car (prius + package 3), considering edmunds reads something close to $23,697 (invoice) and people are paying roughly $24,201, with Msrp being $25,649. And what the hell is with every dealer wanting extra for the damn carpet and cargo net. Every single prius in NY is equipped with it and they just want extra because outside of NY they don't have these installed (did I get this right?). Please let me know what price range I should be expecting for this car. The lowest I have seen is $24000 (this is before discounting the $1000 toyota incentive) and this is all the way in Rochester. Please help, I want to get into this car badly. Joe
Hello Joe: I'm not certain about package #3. I picked up a package #5 a few weeks back in Northern Kentucky. The final price for the car itself (prior to a protectant package, upgraded mats, tax, and other stuff) was slightly north of 25.5G, I think. So the 24G sounds about right. Starting about a week after we got our Prius, demand for 2009's in our area really started to escalate. I was told that Toyota was not releasing 2009 shipments, and that the dealers were dealing with each other, trying to find '09s for customers. That's probably contributing to an unwillingness of dealer's to budge on Prius prices, assuming that your area is experiencing the same trend.
When I got mine from Millennium Toyota back in May 2006, the only extra that came with it is the carpet and wheel locks. I wanted both of them so it wasn't really an extra for me. I no longer do business with them. I now do my service schedules with Competition Toyota. They are much more professional. Well I have not deal with their sales men yet.
Don't walk in. Instead, e-mail their internet sales guy. Say XXX dealer offers me XXXX out the door, can you beat it. Then pit them against each other until your down to the price that you want.
I bought the Prius package 3 yesterday for 25K (including the discount) out the door. I'm happy with the deal I got. And I got the color I wanted, which many dealers here in NYC just simply don't have and promise to get it for you for XXX fee. I now need to know how to test the damn alarm system without actually breaking into my car. Joe
Phone, fax and email are your friend. Tell the nearest dozen dealers what you want and ask them for their out-the-door price; get it in writing. If you like one dealer more than the others, ask that one to beat the best price you have.
