I went to my local Toyota dealership today to testdrive the 09, even though I'm interested in the 10, because I haven't ever driven a Prius before. First of all, I was floored, I loved it. But, then when we got down to talking about price, I was met with an unmoving wall. The sales rep, after consulting twice with his manager, told me that the absolute best they could do is MSRP + $2,995 addendum. He gave me the typical reasons why they are charging that, supply/demand, new car, etc. After 20 minutes of haggling, he didn't budge, so I left. Has anyone been met with an addendum from the dealer for a 2010? Does anyone have any advice for how this can be countered? And, does anyone know of any dealerships in the Atlanta area who are not charging addendums? Thanks!
Or drive to any other dealership, or another region and buy and drive back... I have not yet heard of a single dealer charging above MSRP. What a great way to familiarize yourself with the new Prius, but a drive across the country.
I think they jacked up the prices on the '10 so they can sell you an 09. No one should pay more than MSRP for this car or any car. I would definitely call around and get quotes over the phone. Try and get a hold of the internet sales manager. If you go in person, dealers have a tendency to jack up the prices.
So far, I've called several dealers, and no one can quote me a price yet. Finally, today one of them told me that Southeast Toyota (the regional distributor) has not set their MSRP, which apparently is different than Toyota's MSRP. Is this a valid point? Do Toyota and the regional distributor have different MSRPs?
Well the prices are going to be high at first, because there will be a big demand. Simple. If you can wait, give it 4,5 months and see how its looking. You might try going on the Internet and visiting the Toyota website. The have a build you car area, and you enter your name and a local Dealership will contact you. I went that route and actually got a great deal!!!
I hope for that extra $3000 you get floor mats. I am sure Toyota would love to hear about the business practices of this dealer. A great way to lose customers. Also don't waste you time calling dealers for prices. They will give you any price to get you in the door. Wait till the cars hit the lot, or if they can give you a vin number then the prices will be real.
Do some research and try to find the #1 dealer in customer satisfaction in your area. During the shortage last Summer, Sunnyvale Toyota was taking $500 refundable deposits when 08's were still available. They we're selling 08's for like $150 off Toyota MSRP. Other dealers were hacking pack2 cars with sunroof and botched heated leather seats .... I saw one, no lie, with a posted sticker price of .... $40,000 ... a plain package 2 with roof, leather, BS undercoating Supply and demand affects price greatly. Good luck!
When I bought my '06, demand was high and many dealers tried to tack charges on top of MSRP. I went to the internet. I got about 8 real bids in the area...not hesitating to go out of state. Ended up going about 20 miles away for a good deal and the car I wanted. Don't let one guy (or 5) turn you away from a great car.
I don't think there is a dealer in my area that is charging over MSRP with ridiculous addendums. Some may have $99 ones, but nothing even close to $1,000, let alone $2,999. And if they are, I will personally thank the dealer when people leave and come visit me
