What's with these horse names? Before the race Yahoo had a headline that read "I Want Revenge scratched from Kentucky Derby" and I thought the writer of the story was saying he/she wanted a horse named Revenge to be kicked out of the race. A horse named "I Want Revenge"??? And now a horse named "Mine That Bird"??? That doesn't even make any sense. How do you mine a bird??? Naming a horse "Mynah Bird" I could understand. It sounds like they used a computer word-randomizing program to name these horses. Whatever happened to normal-sounding names like Secretariat or Seabiscut or Stewball?
You are limited to 18 characters and spaces in a thoroughbred name. You can't have the same name as another living registered horse used in your horse. And there are a lot of folks with horses now in the game...
Warning: You might not want to listen to this: I put it on YouTube because PC does not let you post audio files.
ound: I hear ya Bra... But still... that cowboy bought a hell of a winner for $9500 American don't ya think... Too bad the pony will never reproduce... The owner would have had a gold mine in stud fees.
Once upon a time, even cars had animal names: Cougar, Mustang, Impala, Barracuda, Marlin, Demon, Gremlinound:, Sprite, Wildcat, Jaguar, Sting Ray, Thunderbird, Firebird, Hornet, Wasp, Lark, Skylark, Falcon, Eagle, Super-Bee, Super-Snipe, Elf (?), Greyhound (ok, a bus). I'd go for a horse with any of those names.... (Meantime, Datsun remained nerdy with funky little Bluebirds & Sunny's)
I thought "I Want Revenge" was an awesome name for a racehorse. Every year, my family members place a liitle dollar wager on a horse, and a everybody wanted that one for the name. My niece, who is going through a messy divorce (are any of them tidy?) thought that horse name suited her best. My favorite horse name was "Pioneer the Nile" I think he came in 2nd? But I'm glad the longshot won.
