Has anyone had to replace a fuse in the panel under the dash? I blew the brake light fuse in the process of installing a pulser for the third brake light. I figured I would try Walmart or some other local auto parts first. No luck, so I went to the dealer where I purchased the car. The counter person brought out a mini fuse like Walmart had. He looked at the fuse from the Prius and had never seen one like it. He didn't have any in stock. I had him call another dealer nearby (22 miles) and they had some in stock. For what you pay for the car they should give you a few extra fuses as spares especially since they are are a newer smaller size fuse that other stores don't carry. I don't know if this size fuse is new to the 2004, 2005 Prius or if they were also in the Classic. Charlie
Hi Charlie. I don't no why your dealer didn't have the proper fuse. Looking in the '01 & '05 Prius Owners manuals, then looking in the Electrical Wiring Manual ( and from memory ), it appears to be a 7.5 amp fuse for the stop light. Also by the manuals it looks like a normal mini fuse. I am unsure what you were trying to get/what you have. The only different fuses I have seen are used in the Celica and look like 2 mini fuses made as one in some of their circuits.
Rick: I will try to take a picture of the fuse that I blew along side a mini fuse to show you what I am talking about. It looks like a mini fuse with the prongs cut off but the fuse fits in the fuse box deeper than the regular mini fuse. Charlie
Yes, They are variations of the mini fuse. In addition to shorter prongs, parts of the plastic head along the prongs are missing. The latter is crucial as this is what makes the connection in the fuse box. I tried all of the major auto parts places and had to order them from Toyota. $1.95 each. They had to special order them....
