I have asked several people at my Toyota dealership this question and none of them know. Why do the bars on the view screen change colors? Mine go from blue to light green to(only one time) light purple?
bluzrulz, The bars on the view screen change colors to indicate the charge status of the main drive battery. The Prius on-board computer monitors the charge status of the main battery and regulates it to stay between 80% charge and 40% charge. This is the optimum charge range necessary to maintain good battery life. I'm not certain of the percentage charge levels to change the colors, but, green indicates a high level of charge; blue is normal; and purple is a low level of charge. Hope this helps.
:cheer2:Thank you very much. This has been a puzzle for a long time. Was quite surprised that the people at the dealership didn't know this. Love my Prius and I haven't had any problems with it.
The colors are redundant with the number of bars. They add no information other than making it easier to see at a glance which range the battery is in.
