Last summer I met a fellow named Dr. M.A. Rahman. He is a Professor of engineering at The University of Newfoundland. Toyota hired him many years ago to help design the hybrid engine. At the time he asked me a lot of questions about how my Prius Taxi's were doing. He gave me his card and said if I had any questions that I could contact him and he said he would be in contact with me in the future. Today he called me and asked me to pick him up in my taxi. He was in town to do a lecture at Queens University. He asked me to come back to the University in 1 hour and speak to the class about my experience with both my Prius Taxi's doing 150,000 km a year each. I sat in on the last 15 min of his lecture which was mostly about IPM technology. It appeared that he was trying his best to convince the students to work in those areas when they finish school. I spoke for a few minutes about my likes and dislikes and they asked me a few questions. I sat in on the last half hour where the class was asking Dr. Raham questions. Electrical and Computer Engineering - ECE Seminar - Professor M.A. Rahman, June 23, 2009 It was pretty interesting even if I didn't understand some of the questions about electromagnetics etc. I got a kick out of him calling me his "colleague". He said he was heading to Saudi Arabia soon to do some speaking there. He smiled when he said that they are a little concerned about the possibility of the hybrid cars catching on around the world.
Ballan-- Had he given me a days warning I would have contacted you in case you were free to meet him. I would imagine you live within 15 min of Queens.
Great to hear your experience. I hope they are concerned. They should be, holding the world hostage for oil.
