Gold farming is another variation on gambling.... Which takes real money away from places such as Macau. Too many vested interests were likely having real rice taken from their rice bowls....
It's a pretty nice thought on the part of the Chinese government... however all it will do is close down the reputable sites (the ones that make the gold they're selling in a legal way, even if selling itself is against the game's policies) and leave the unreputable ones (the ones that make their gold by stealing people's accounts and cleaning them out). After all, if you're already engaged in illegal activity to turn your profit, what does it matter if it becomes more illegal?
