geesh you guys i thought youd jump to the questions when i stated i got my remote start put in today. oh well. just to review. the install was about 3 hours. one of which was to install the unit with all the wiring harness changes and the next two were to program and telll the car that this was legit. it seems to work well but i have not figured the remote distance. just push lock twice fast and then hold it down again. parking lights flash. and voila . it is running and the ac or heat is on . pretty cool
I was thinking of getting it too as I am terribly afraid of someone trying to bomb my car. I happen to drive for a very high profile "family member" if ya know whad I mean!!! Here in Joisey its really needed. Ya never know when you're gonna blow!!
well, that is something to consider. however, as soon as a door is unlocked the engine or computer shuts down. still pretty cool. i like it even more since i "bargained" for it as a condition of my lease. im such a hammer! fred from nashville
I think the remote distance should be the same as it normally is- if you can lock or unlock your car you're within range (listen for the beeps or have someone watch for you). I tested mine out and it works from my kitchen, so I'll be getting one as well. It will be pretty crippled when it's parked further away like at work on a cold or hot day though. Doesn't stop the remote AC people though!
OK, now you have to do some tests for us. On a hot sunny day, after your Prius has been in the sun for a while. Engage the remote start, then open your Prius in one minute and note whether the interior is significantly cooled. Then repeat the same test at two and three minutes. Bottom line, I would like to know how long the A/C needs to be running using the remote start feature to make a significant difference. I have a Prius IV on order with remote start. Thanks.
well, it does get hot here in nashville. one minute does not help much. but i think 5 minutes makes a great deal of dif fred from nashville
