Hi all, I'm going to (hopefully) be buying a 2010 Prius in the next month or two. I have my own financing, and have a qualifying suv for the CARS credit, so the only thing left to negotiate with the dealer is what to pay for the vehicle. Today was my first browse in person, and the manager said they would give me $300 off sticker for a II or III (the two models I'm looking for). Last car I bought was a 2003 Civic Hybrid (first year for that hybrid so was fairly hot back then due to limited supply), and initially in all my visits to the local dealers back then (I had no trade for that and had my own financing), no one budged on sticker, but when I filled out an online quote request (I think maybe cars.com?), I wound up with a dealer giving me $500 off sticker, so at least it was something. It looks like (at least the dealer I was at), all the cars had the...ahem....$200...floormats but no other options tacked on, so I'm assuming that is at least some wiggle room for the dealer. Any stories of discounts you've gotten (or things negotiated on like the remote start - probably the only option we'd want), or techniques to use? Gas here is around $2.60/gallon this week, so the prius' probably aren't in as high of demand as when it was almost $4. thks, Phil
I bought a Blizzard Prius V with Nav at MSRP (no dealer markups) last month at a dealership north of Chicago. The dealer threw in $500-$600 in all-weather mats, theft protection, window etching, etc at no cost. It was the exact model, color and option package I wanted; and two other couples at the dealership were waiting to test drive the car as I decided whether I wanted to buy it or not. I am extremely happy with the car. No regrets about the deal. Jabber could tell you which Prius models are in highest demand in the Chicago region this summer. I get the sense, however, that the IV and V models have been the top choices among the early-buying crowd in Chicago. The II's and III's are terrific values: they have absolutely all of the hybrid/powertrain/safety technology of the more expensive models. I was willing to pay more for the creature comforts, LED/self-leveling headlights and the handling of the V.
I am in NW Indiana and I can guarantee $300 off and confirm a deal at $600 off, but that was on a IV. These are on cars with no port or dealer options except floor mats and aside from trade-ins. I doubt you'll ever get one anywhere near invoice, but if you can wait, IMO discounts will grow between now and next summer or whenever gas prices do (and they will) head up substantially. 'Good things come to those who wait...'
On 5/20/09 in South Florida paid MSRP - No Dealer Fee I understand some buyers here are claiming a small discount, others claiming $2,000 - $3,000 premiums being demanded. My guess is if you negotiate and are willing to wait, you can get an MSRP deal in the Southeast Toyota (SET) area (FL, MS, GA, NC, SC) . Our dealers pay around $700 to SET that other states don't, so discounting elsewhere is possible.
