Two weeks ago my Prius III arrives with two ugly gray band aids covering the spaces for fogs. So I buy a "Prius V-ready' set of Blinglights and take car and lights to installer -- only to learn I need the Prius V foglight housings to fit them. So buy a set of two from Toyota. Start over again but soon agree it's virtually impossible to set the Blinglights accurately in the new Prius V housing. So I buy a set of Prius V foglights from Toyota (ouch!). Took the new Toyota lights and the housings back to my local audio installer, 919 Motoring in Raleigh, NC, who then finished the installation in a little over an hour, but mounted a switch on the dash instead of spending more money for a new stalk on the steering column. Works well, looks good. Pics attached. Conclusion: It does not pay to try to save money. The Prius V housing is a demanding fit and so far only the Toyota Prius V fogs fit properly. Was it worth it? Take a look again at those gray band aids on the Prius II, III and IV -- it's worth doing something! it![/IMG]
I agree about the gray "band-aids." They look terrible. My Gen III is black, so the gray doesn't look bad, but on pretty much any other color, they look horrible. I'm surprised Toyota took such a cheap route. Anyway, I like what you did. It looks great! What was the total cost including install?
More than I anticipated! I thought 90 bucks for Blinglights was enough to invest. Instead: Two Prius V foglight housings (part #'s 81482-47020 + 81481-47020) @$46 = $92. Two Toyota Prius V foglights @ $155 each = $310. Installation cost: $150. Total: $552. Real cost: $90 Blinglights + $552 for actual work + plus unquantifiable waste of time before figuring out the answer. Moral: Avoid the mistakes of others by following Priuschat!
When you list separate prices for the "housing" and for the "bulbs," what do you mean exactly? Do you mean the housing is the plastic part around the foglight, and the "foglights" themself include the bulbs and the glass enclosure thing they sit in? Did you just order these through your dealer? I want to add some foglights when I get my Prius, but I think I want to add HIDs to them. Do you know what size/type the bulbs are? Looks good!
Yes. And for the second question: ask your dealer. Right now my reason for posting was to warn against third party solutions at this early stage.
what about wiring and such? Is that included in the bulb price? I assume so cause it's much higher than the housing price ($46/ea.). If the wires are included without the bulbs, that anyone can simply put in a bulb of their choice.
