I clipped a orange construction barrel with my driver side mirror and broke it. It was either hit the barrels or go under an 18-wheeler. (road narrowed unexpectedly from 3 lanes to 1) The bracket the mirror attaches to the door with is fine, the mirror is fine but the little plastic doohicky that holds the two together and lets the mirror rotate to pull in is broken. It's still attached by the wire. Is there a part just for that, or do yall think Toyota would make me replace the whole mirror assembly? They quoted me a price of $230 for the mirror and $95 for labor. I looked one up online and it's $80. Is it pretty easy to replace the mirror ourselves? Any advice is appreciated. different angle:
Sorry about that, but glad that you're OK. parts.com shows that the Mirror Assembly retails for $237.53 and they sell it at discount for $164.22: 2009 Toyota Prius Mirror assy - Parts.com Where did you find it for $80? (Unless we're talking about a different part ... I'm not 100% certain what part you need ... I think it's the Mirror Assembly.) I'm not much of a DIYer so I don't know how hard it is to DIY. But you might find a body shop that will install it for half (or less) the dealer's labor charges.
I guess the site I was looking at had the Kool Vue mirrors were from $50-80. Are those different than the ones from Toyota? I could go to the autobeyours.com site and get them for $99 but I don't know how much shipping is.
Assuming that it's substantively the same as the OEM part, an aftermarket Mirror Assembly would be OK to me if I'm the one paying for it. EDIT: Also check out this thread (and search for other threads) about installing outside mirrors: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...hooting/58015-how-replace-drivers-mirror.html
Thank you very much I printed out some instructions. I pulled the speaker off (managed to lose the top clip inside the mirror, doh) thinking I could just at least get the mirror and put it in the car so I wont lose it. But, I will need to pull the door pannel off to get to the wire plug to unplug the mirror. So for now I've taped the mirror back onto the bracket. I wonder if anyone has any experience with the Kool Vue mirrors.
