Speculation heard on a podcast, it almost makes sense. The Tesla has Corvette shaming acceleration at Corvette price range ... it had to have put Lutz in a tizzy. Bob Wilson
If the Tesla had shamed Lutz, GM would have released an EV edition of the Corvette. Since that hasn't happened as yet, I suspect the Volt was released in response to GM getting shellacked by the Prius. Once GM hit the wall financially, any move to kill the Volt for economy sake would have had a negative impact on the financial 'assistance' GM was looking for.
Ive got to blame Bush for the misdirection of the auto industry. His plan to develop hydrogen vehicles was a pipedream and waste of development resources. Just so the oil companies would be able to sell hydrogen and the government could tax it.
I blame the oil and auto industries for that one. Big oil could sell more oil if hydrogen was widely adopted, all the while fooling the public into thinking it's 'green'. And the no-longer-big-three could get huge grants for developing the hydrogen hoax. I'm not sure Bush was any more to blame than any other hoodwinked-by-lobbyists politician.
The industry did it to themselves with poor planning. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Wait... you weren't joking were ya Bra... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... THAT'S EVEN FUNNIER... As for the OP... I had a Vega that beat Corvettes... with only a 215 cid v8 motor...but a Vega ain't a Vette... and the Tesla is a sporty lil car (either one) but the one based on the Lotus isn't a car that most normal sized folks can get in and out of and doesn't have all the safety features the GM car does. Tesla Motors - body Don't get me wrong... I'd drive it... I just don't fit easily in it.
