It seems like not an uncommon story of child putting coins in the cd player. However, I am wondering if this could have caused some sort of system failure. When I turned the car on, all the lights turned on, including the big red triangle with the exclamation point, and then the car just shut down. I tried to recharge the battery, but the only thing that happens is the mulfunction indicator lamp comes on. I don't have to take this to the dealer right away, so I am wondering if anyone has any ideas before I spend the money for the tow. Thanks in advance!
It's possible that your 12v battery has failed and may need replacement. Did you try jumping the battery with the posts under the hood? Directions are in the owner's manual.
Yes, I tried to recharge the 12 volt battery per the manual instructions. Is it common for the battery to fail after 34,000 miles?
It really depends on how you have treated the battery, like listening to the radio while not in the ready mode, leaving lights on, interior and exterior, after shutdown, etc. It's a very small battery and does not take prolonged loads well when not being charged. So basically, mileage really doesn't come in to play.
