Just to follow up, that was the culprit! The internal fins had started to grind, hence the noise. Replaced the whole pump.
Just double-checked for pulley movement, now I'm seeing quite a bit of movement out of the water pump pulley. Tightened bolts on top, still saw...
There are, but the sound seems to come from further back of them - closer to the belt.
Correct, only with the engine running - nothing heard otherwise.

Runs true, also - no deviations from side to side on any of the pulleys.
