Here are some 2004 Calendar Year Total Sales Volumes for selected models to give an idea of how the Prius did. Prius 53,991 E-Class 53,886 Optima 53,492 Passat 52,149
Using OpenOffice Spreadsheet (just looking for a reason to use it), I did some simple calculations: 2003 YTD Prius = 0.35% of all vehicles sold Prius = 6.9% if Honda Accord equals 100% 2004 YTD Prius = 0.80% of all vehicles sold Prius = 13.96 if Honda Accord equals 100% I can't wait to see 2005 results.
Prius is climbing within the Toyota family itself too. The total 2004 (from Jan.1 to Dec.31) sales of Passenger Cars for Toyota in North America was: 965,091. The following is the breakdown of those numbers, in descending order... 426,990 - CAMRY 333,161 - COROLLA 53,991 - PRIUS 47,013 - SCION_xB 36,460 - AVALON 28,062 - SCION_tC 24,184 - SCION_xA 8,710 - CELICA 3,899 - ECHO 2,621 - MR2_SPYDER And with the production volume of the 2005 model Prius having been increased to 100,000 vehicles, it will further solidify that position.
