Son in law has a '13 v with lots of miles. Check engine light of course and dealer quoted $3k to investigate and another $5k to fix if head gasket. No sign of anti-freeze or oil shortage. Car used a short trip to school vehicle and sometimes 50 miles at 70 mph. SIL has no mechanical aptitude with cars. Reasonable. He will junk it as this is too much to put into a car with this many miles and it has already been replaced. Raleigh NC.
i would get a second opinion. engine light can mean a lot of things, ans 3k to troubleshoot is off the wall. someone with tech stream can give you the codes
?? Without even knowing what's wrong? Perhaps it's something minor, considering you say it isn't losing coolant.
If it’s $3k to diagnose USUALLY that money can be used towards the repair, so in this case it’s an $8k repair. Wow!!!
