Hello everyone, I am the owner of a 1998 MK1 NHW10 Prius, with almost 190000 Km on it. The vehicle is of Japanese Specs, and the local dealership cant help me out.The problem started when i went overseas, came back and the vehicle just wouldnt start i mean there was power, but the engine just wouldnt spin. The dealership said to me that because its of Japanese specs they do not have the manuals, the codes are C2573,C2579.Apparently they THINK there are for the HV battery. Can anyone please help me out, where can I find what these codes mean. Thank you.
I would recommend the YahooGroup, Mk1_Prius. They are folks dealing with the NHW10 Prius and recently have been doing excellent work rebuilding battery packs. Just like we're confirming in the NHW11 community, you don't have to replace all of the batteries, just the failed string(s). Bob Wilson
If you're away for too long, the HV battery (NiMH) SOC might have dropped to a critically low level for it to be able to provide enough power for MG1 to crank ICE. Have you tried to jump start the HV battery? Your model, NHW10, is the only Prius model that has an onboard Inverter capable of charging the HV battery from a 12 volt source. The later Prius, NHW11 & NHW20, do not have this Inverter and their HV batteries cannot be jump started in this way. A NZ senior lecturer, R J McLeod, has a step-by-step instructions on how to do it. 12V_2_HVcharging.zip Alternatively, you may show this document to your dealership and pay them to do it for you.
