Just picked up a 2014 Prius Two (I think) with 64k miles from an old friend who can’t drive anymore. I’ve been haunting the forums for a couple days and would appreciate some tips. This is my first Toyota and first hybrid coming from a long line of Hondas. I’m assuming I should change all fluids since it sat for the last year. Anything else I should check for. I am planning on a full EGR cleaning shortly and installing an oil catch. Is it worth replacing any part of the water pump system given the age? Any tips or tricks to make it last longer are appreciated.
congrats and welcome! you got a great car there, i would take a step back and a deep breath. the car is not that old and has low miles. sitting for a year is not a big issue. 1) charge up the 12v and test the health. 2) change the engine oil and filter 3) check/clean/replace the engine and cabin filters 4) check the tire pressure, and set somewhere above the door jamb recommendations. 5) take it for a nice long drive and enjoy. 6) do the egr circuit asap 7) consider changing the tranny fluid 8) register at toyota.com/owners, check the maintenance records and recalls. look at the maintenance schedule and follow it. 9) all the best!
Thank you. Just for clarification, doing the EGR circuit is taking those off and cleaning then as the popular linked DIY videos shows, right? I didn’t know about slightly overinflating the tires either.
i think so, it would include the intake manifold. haven't done it myself, but there are plenty of threads here, and check out @NutzAboutBolts youtube
