Hi guys, I just bought an '04 Prius with service history that shows the "129-HV EL. WATERPUMP" was replaced last month. I've just recently noticed the squealing noise of the Coolant Heat Storage pump. Is this a different pump, or are they the same thing? My salesman says the pump has already been replaced, but I'm wondering if these are 2 different pumps/systems?
Hi All, Yep, one of the reasons I got the 2010 after my 2nd Gen was totalled, was it had half the number (2) of water pumps, and none of them were belt driven... Tekdeus, I am affraid your car is out of waranty for the CHS water pump. That is what you are hearing. It will stop squeling when the weather gets warmer. I had mine done just this spring , just before the waranty went out. Then the damn incompetent SUV driver had to smash into the back of my car!
So is the "129-HV EL. WATERPUMP" listed on my service history the inverter pump, not the Coolant Heat Storage (CHS) pump? Thanks
Yes, there is a replacement program (not a "recall") on the inverter coolant pump, so that is probably the one that was replaced. As stated above, there are four coolant pumps on the GII. The belt driven engine coolant pump, which runs whenever the engine is turning, The electric coolant pump for the heater core when the engine is stopped, The inverter coolant pump, The coolant transfer pump for the thermos, which runs when you shut off the car or start it. Pearl's coolant transfer pump has been squealing for 2 1/2 years now. Toyota Canada won't replace it because of the squeal. I suspect it is just fine, and even if it fails it's no real loss, as the thermos doesn't have much effect here in Edmonton, other than causing the check engine light to come on once it fails (but I haven't seen that yet).
